THE
ISLAND OF CHIOS or HIOS, GREECE
Chios is a part of the North East Aegean islands and it is the fifth
largest of teh Greek islands in size. It is situated just 7 kilometers
from the Minor Asia (Turkey) coast.
CHIOS is world known for its unique mustic gum used in all kinds
of products from food flavouring to health care products. The island
its also noted for its many medieval villages and its strong merchnt
shipping tradition.
The main harbour is a real treat; wonderfully accessible with museums,
a truly fascinating bazaar and some excellent tavernas. Not yet
swamped by package holidaymakers Chios retains much character and
individuality and is also widely regarded as the birthplace of Homer.
