Paxos
or Paxi Island in The Ionian Island Group fo Greece
The Ionian Islands hug the West Coast of Greece and are distinguished
from many of the other Greek Islands by their fertile and lush appearance,
brought about by exposure to winter rains. Some of the most stunning
beaches are to be found amongst the Ionian chain. Good choices for the
independent minded traveller would be Kefalonia or Lefkas; for the more
traditional holiday Corfu and Zakynthos also known as Zante are very
popular. Ithaca legendary home of Odysseus and Paxos attract a less
mainstream clientele as they cannot be reached with direct flights.
Spring time in the Ionian chain is a truly delightful experience as
the abundance of wild flowers fills the air with a rich aroma - indeed
the Italians named Zakynthos Ile fiore di Levante flower of the East
because the sailors could detect the perfume of flowers before they
caught sight of the island.
